Right on Trend: June Issue

We’ve entered a new month, which means plenty of new seasonal foods on our plates. With this list, you’ll be fully up to speed on June’s must-try flavors.

A shopping list full of seasonal produce offers many benefits. First and foremost, eating local fruits and vegetables that are naturally growing at that time of year is an easy way to significantly reduce your carbon footprint. Since the current weather conditions here are optimal, these fruits and vegetables don’t need to be imported from distant countries. Nor do we need to replicate the ideal growing conditions in greenhouses here at home. As a result, energy costs are significantly reduced. That’s good for the climate and for your bank account. Seasonal produce is also much cheaper.1 Last but not least, fruits and vegetables taste much better when they’ve been able to grow under ideal conditions. Strawberries you buy in the summer, for example, have a much richer and sweeter flavor than those that fill the shelves in the winter.
