Step-by-Step Guide to Sterilizing Weck Jars
In this blog post, you'll find a complete overview of methods for easily sterilizing canning jars and glass bottles so you can safely store food in them.
Why is this important?
When food is heated to a high temperature (>65°C) for an extended period, the microorganisms that cause food spoilage are destroyed. Pathogenic bacteria are also rendered harmless.
Method 1

Supplies
- Large cooking pot(s)
- Water
Step-by-Step Guide
- Remove the lid and the rubber ring from the jar.
- Place the canning jar in the pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Make sure the canning jar is completely submerged.
- Let it cook for 15 minutes.
- In the meantime, wash the lid and the rubber rings.
- Carefully remove the jar from the water and, ideally, let it air dry.
- Let them cool before filling them.
Method 2

Supplies
- Oven
Step-by-Step Guide
- Preheat the oven to 150°C.
- Remove the lid and the rubber ring from the jar.
- Place the jars on a baking sheet and bake them in the oven for 15 minutes.
- Be careful with the hot pots.
- Let them cool before filling them.
Getting Started
Once they've cooled, you can use the jars to safely store food. Use them to store your homemade granola or a supply of pine nuts (which are delicious with this dish). This is also a crucial step if you want to makeyour own tomato passata.
